POSITIVE WOMEN’S NETWORK – USA TEXAS, GREATER HOUSTON AREA, COLLABORATES WITH THE ASSOCIATION FOR ADVANCEMENT OF MEXICAN AMERICANS (AAMA) IN RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL WOMEN AND GIRLS HIV/AIDS AWARENESS DAY.

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is an annual, nationwide observance that sheds light on the impact of HIV and AIDS on women and girls. Every year on March 10 and throughout the month of March, national, local and many community organizations show support for women and girls impacted by HIV and AIDS by hosting events to bring awareness to the impact of women and girls living with HIV. This year marks the 13th observance of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

Positive Women’s Network – USA (PWN-USA) Texas, a membership organization of women living with HIV, held its second annual event in Houston honoring the National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, Friday March 9th.

The event, which took place at the Cesar Chavez High School located in Houston Texas, included a Speaker from the Gilead pharmaceutical company, who presented on sex education and provided a healthy lunch.

Tana Pradia,  Marnina Miller and Mona jessi Cartwright-Biggs, proud members of Positive Women’s Network (PWN) collaborated with AAMA to host the event. PWN created questions for discussion regarding sex education for the entire senior class of Cesar Chavez. The seniors broke off into small groups of boys and girls.  The groups were facilitated by the members of PWN and members of AAMA. The questions created lively discussion amongst the teens, which were separated by gender making both genders feel safe and unrestricted to ask question and have a healthy conversation.

Marnina compassionately shared her story of how she came to be a women living with HIV and the adventures of her global advocacy which has taken her across the country all the way to Honduras.

PWN also had Tana and Mona jessi who are Volunteer Deputy Voter Registers available to get people registered to vote. AAMA and PWN both raffled of gift baskets for the seniors.

This is the second year AAMA and PWN has come together for the National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. This year’s event was very well received and we look forward to teaming up with AAMA again in the coming year.
