ORGANIZING RESOURCES

Expanding Sanctuary Policy Solutions – A Crowdsourced Guide from Mijente

A compilation of current bills and analysis pointing toward what’s needed but not yet drafted to serve as a starting place for policy solutions to expand sanctuary at the city level. It suggests 8 policies that expand sanctuary (and benefit/ do no harm) for the following constituencies: undocumented people, Muslims, LGBTQ folks (Trans people specifically) and Black activists in cities.

It is meant to help answer the question, “We want to be a sanctuary. How do we do it?” and a repository for solutions and visions of what is and could be done to defy Trump, defend our cities, and expand sanctuary.

Community Defense Zone Guide [in English & Spanish] from GLAHR, Mijente & Puente Human Rights

This document lays out a roadmap for setting up Community Defense Zone campaigns in local communities. We know that many people are doing different kinds of work right now, but we also have heard from many that templates are needed for where to start under the new reality of the Trump Era. The lessons here are pulled from successful campaigns in red states, under hostile state government, to run Community Defense Zone campaigns (some often called ‘ICE Free Zone campaigns’ or ‘Human Rights Zone’ campaigns).

It is meant to be adaptable for small towns and big cities, relevant to red state and blue, meant to get us beyond our usual circles, and it’s best paired with other ‘know your rights’ materials.

Tell Your Mayor to Defy Trump, Expand Sanctuary – Local Campaign Petition Platform from Mijente
