Positive Women’s Network-USA (PWN-USA) is offering a scholarship to increase participation by women and people of trans experience living with HIV, with a focus on survivors of violence in all forms, in the 2018 Biomedical HIV Prevention Summit.

SisterSong defines Reproductive Justice as the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities. PWN-USA believes that ending violence against our communities is key to achieving this. We define violence broadly and in structural terms, understanding violence against women and people of trans experience as inclusive of racism, transphobia, misogyny, capitalist systems, and racialized policing and surveillance practices, in addition to interpersonal and community violence. For more background, see here for our factsheet: Ending Violence against Women Living with HIV.

Those interested should apply in teams of two from their state and metropolitan areas. Each member of the team will complete the application individually but must list a partner from the same geographic area. The purpose of participating as a team is so that you can make plans to implement your learnings together at home to advance reproductive justice in your community.

Scholarship applicants should demonstrate a commitment to and connections in their community that will support advocacy for reproductive justice and healthcare.

Applicants must be able to commit to the following:

  • Attend the 2018 Biomedical HIV Prevention Summit on December 3-4 in Los Angeles, CA and participate in all required activities during that Summit

  • Participate in a half-day PWN training on December 5 in Los Angeles, CA

  • Participate in an introductory cohort webinar prior to the 2018 Biomedical HIV Prevention Summit

Cohort applicants will travel to Los Angeles on December 2nd and depart the afternoon or evening of December 5th. The scholarship includes airfare, accommodations, meals, and a childcare stipend at home for those who require it in order to travel.

Applications were due by October 25 by 11:59 PM EST .
